When you drop your child off at nursery each morning, you’re greeted by familiar smiles. You know their key person. You know who listens to their stories about the weekend. You know who’s there to cheer them on when they master putting on their own coat.

But exceptional early years care is never the work of one person alone.

Behind every settled baby, every confident preschooler and every proud “look what I did!” moment, there’s a whole team at work. Planning, mentoring, leading, preparing food, caring for the environment and quietly making sure everything runs exactly as it should.

At Seymour House, that teamwork is rooted in something deeper. As a group of family-owned and operated nurseries with decades of experience, the focus has always remained the same, people first. Not only the children and families, but also the passionate professionals who care for them every day.

Here’s a look at the people behind the magic.

Early Years Educators: the heart of the nursery

At the centre of everyday nursery life are our Early Years Educators. These qualified professionals build strong, reassuring relationships with the children and their families. They know which book must be read twice, which toy is the current favourite and when a child needs a little extra encouragement.

Their work goes far beyond warm smiles and comforting cuddles, though there’s plenty of those too!

Early Years Educators carefully plan inspiring educational learning moments that support each child’s development, guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. They observe, assess and reflect, ensuring teaching and learning is meaningful and tailored to individual needs. They create environments that spark curiosity, independence and confidence.

Within this role are experienced practitioners who work alongside their colleagues to help maintain consistent, high standards of practice. It is collaborative, thoughtful work grounded in professional knowledge and a deep understanding of early child development.

For parents, this means your child is not simply being cared for. They are supported by trained Early Years Educators, professionals who understand how children grow, learn and truly flourish.

Nursery Leadership: setting standards and supporting the team

Great nurseries don’t happen by accident. Strong leadership ensures that excellence runs throughout the nursery, every day.

At Seymour House, our Nursery Managers are responsible for the smooth operation of the nursery. They oversee safeguarding, maintain regulatory standards and ensure the environment is always welcoming and well organised. They also support staff development, nurture team culture and build strong partnerships with families.

Working closely alongside the Nursery Manager is the Head of Early Years Practice. This role focuses on ensuring learning experiences remain ambitious, reflective and rooted in best EYFS practice across the nursery. By supporting and guiding our Early Years Educators they help ensure every child benefits from our dynamic inspirational curriculum.

For families, good leadership means reassurance. It means knowing that quality and safety are carefully overseen at every level. High standards are sustained through clear expectations, ongoing professional development and visible, values-led leadership.

Early Years Apprentices: caring as they learn

Among the most inspiring roles in a nursery are our Early Years Apprentices.

Our apprentices work towards their professional early years qualification, whilst gaining hands-on experience in the nursery. They learn alongside our Early Years Educators, developing the skills needed to support children’s learning and wellbeing.

Importantly, apprentices are never left to manage alone. They are mentored and supported as they grow in confidence and competence. This reflects Seymour House’s commitment to nurturing not only children, but also the team who care for them. We create clear pathways for those who want to build a career in early years education.

Nursery Food Champions: nourishing growing minds

Not all the roles in a nursery are based in the classroom, but they’re all just as important.

Our Nursery Food Champion supports children’s health and wellbeing through freshly prepared meals and snacks. Nutrition is about more than filling hungry tummies. It establishes healthy habits, encourages independence and creates positive social experiences around food.

Careful attention is given to dietary requirements, allergies and nutrition with balanced meals and snacks provided by Nursery Kitchen. Nursery mealtimes are calm and social occasions, helping children build confidence and positive relationships with food.

Nursery Housekeepers: creating safe and welcoming spaces

Another of the essential roles in a nursery? Our Nursery Housekeepers.

A safe, clean and welcoming environment doesn’t happen by chance. It’s maintained every single day. Our Housekeepers ensure spaces are always hygienic, tidy and comfortable. Their work allows our educators to focus fully on the children, confident that the environment meets the high standards necessary to support the wellbeing of everyone in the nursery.

For parents, this role offers quiet reassurance. The calm, orderly spaces you see reflect consistent care behind the scenes.

How different roles in a nursery work together

Whilst each of our nursery roles has distinct responsibilities, they are all united by the one shared purpose of giving every child a beyond brilliant start.

As a family-owned and operated group, Seymour House has grown without losing sight of what matters most. Investment in people, long-term commitment and a focus on quality shape every level of the organisation.

From apprentices to leadership, from educators to support teams, every role contributes to our one shared purpose: creating a safe, nurturing and magical place for children to learn and thrive.

A collective commitment to your child

Understanding the roles in a nursery reveals something important. When you leave your child each morning, you are not placing your trust in one person alone. You are trusting a whole team working together with care, professionalism and wholesome values. At Seymour House you can rest assured your children are supported by a whole team that takes its responsibility seriously.

If you are exploring childcare options, you can find a nursery near you and discover the Seymour House approach in person.

Frequently Asked Questions About Roles in a Nursery

What is a key person in a nursery?

A key person is a named team member who takes special responsibility for a small group of children. They build a close, consistent relationship with each child and their family, supporting emotional wellbeing and tracking individual development.

How many staff are required per child in a nursery?

Staff-to-child ratios in England are set by the EYFS framework. For children under 2, there must be at least one member of staff for every three children. For 2-year-olds, the ratio is 1:5. For children aged three and above, it is 1:8. Seymour House always meets and aims to exceed these requirements.

What qualifications do nursery staff need?

Early Years Educators at Seymour House nurseries must hold a Level 3 qualification in Early Years as a minimum. Our Nursery Managers must also have a Level 3 qualification and at least two years’ experience in an early years setting. Alongside experience, our Head of Early Years Practice role requires a higher-level qualification, such as an early years degree or a qualified Early Years Teacher. We have a nursery apprenticeship programme for those just starting their childcare career, through which they receive on the job training to achieve their Level 3 qualification.

Can I find out who will be caring for my child before they start?

Absolutely. When you enrol at Seymour House, we encourage families to visit the nursery, meet the team and settle in gently. Getting to know the people who will care for your child is an important part of building trust and confidence for both parents and little ones.

Yes, and the good news is, it’s already happening! Every single day, your 2-year-old is learning. From the moment they wake up to the moment they fall asleep, their brilliant little brain is absorbing, discovering and making sense of the world around them. Education for 2-year-olds isn’t about sitting at a desk or following a lesson plan. It’s about play, curiosity, connection and exploration. Whether your child is at home with you, attending nursery, or a wonderful mix of both, nurturing that natural love of learning at this age lays the foundations for everything that comes next.

Why is early education so important?

The early years, from birth to age five, are the most significant period of brain development in a child’s entire life. The connections formed during these years shape how children think, communicate, socialise and feel. Ofsted’s landmark research series, Best Start in Life, published in October 2024, makes it clear that early education is too important to be left to chance. A high-quality early years curriculum gives all children, particularly those who face additional challenges, the very best start.

That doesn’t mean pressure. It doesn’t mean learning to write stories or how to do multiplication! What it does mean is that the rich, playful, nurturing experiences children have between the ages of two and five genuinely matter and can have a lasting impact on the people they become.

What skills is my 2-year-old working on?

Two-year-olds are natural explorers. NHS developmental guidelines remind us that every child develops at their own pace. That’s something to celebrate, not worry about. But here’s what’s typically happening inside that curious little mind:

Language and communication: Most 2-year-olds have a vocabulary of around 50 words and are beginning to put two words together. Research from Great Ormond Street Hospital notes that at around two, toddlers often build up to 100–200 words and love singing, action rhymes and naming things they can see.

Physical development: From running and jumping to holding a crayon and turning the pages of a book, fine and gross motor skills are developing fast.

Social and emotional skills: 2-year-olds are beginning to notice other children, learn about sharing and understand simple emotions.

Imagination and creativity: Pretend play is in full swing. From ‘feeding’ a toy bear to ‘cooking’ in a play kitchen, this imaginative play is far more powerful than it looks.

Problem solving and curiosity: Stacking, sorting, experimenting. Why does water splash? How does this fit together? These questions are the start of a scientific mind.

What is the EYFS and does it apply to my 2-year-old?

In England, all nurseries and early years settings follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. This is a government-backed set of standards that covers learning, development and care from birth to age five.

The EYFS identifies three prime areas for learning and forming relationships:

Communication and language

Personal, social and emotional development

Physical development.

It also recognises four specific areas for igniting children’s curiosity:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design.

At Seymour House, our passionate early years team carefully plans every experience around the EYFS framework, ensuring every child in our care is gently guided through each area in a way that feels magical, not pressured.

How does nursery education benefit a 2-year-old?

Nursery education for 2-year-olds offers something truly special, a world designed entirely with them in mind. Here’s what a brilliant nursery experience can do:

Harness their imagination: Nurseries create rich environments full of invitations to explore, discover and create. Sensory trays, story time, outdoor adventures and messy play. Every activity is purposefully designed to spark curiosity and harness their imagination.

Build confidence and social skills: Mixing with other little ones in a safe, nurturing setting helps children learn to take turns, communicate and develop those all-important friendships.

Develop language and literacy: Through songs, stories, conversations and play, language blooms. Research consistently shows that rich language environments in the early years have a significant impact on literacy throughout school.

Nurture emotional wellbeing: A great nursery team provides warmth, routine and consistency, which gives children the emotional security to take risks, try new things and grow.

Lay the foundations for school readiness: Not by rushing childhood, but by building the skills, attitudes and love of learning that make the transition to school a happy one.

Inspirational Education at Seymour House Nurseries

Seymour House is a group of 12 day nurseries across Essex and Hertfordshire, with over 35 years of experience delivering beyond brilliant early years education. Every one of our nurseries has a fantastic Ofsted rating, a testament to the passionate, dedicated teams who bring magic to the everyday.

Our unique approach to inspirational education draws on the EYFS framework, the latest early years research, and a deep belief that when children harness their imagination, they can become anything they want to be. We nurture the whole child, their body, their mind and their character, guided by wholesome values and a genuine love of learning.

From next-level mealtimes full of healthy, freshly prepared food to outdoor discovery sessions that ignite a sense of wonder, every part of the Seymour House day is thoughtfully crafted. Because we believe early education isn’t something that happens to children, it’s something that happens with them.

Not at nursery yet? Your 2-year-old is still learning every day

If your child isn’t at nursery yet, that’s absolutely fine. The home is one of the most powerful learning environments there is. You are your child’s first and most important teacher. The conversations you have, the books you read together, the games you play, the songs you sing, all of it is education. NHS-supported guidance confirms that toddlers learn through interacting with the world around them and parents play a vital role in that. During the toddler years, learning happens through exploration. You don’t need expensive toys or structured sessions. You just need time, attention and a sense of fun.

5 magical learning activities for 2-year-olds at home

Here are some wonderfully simple ways to nurture your toddler’s learning every day:

1. Treasure Basket Play

Fill a basket with safe everyday objects, for example a wooden spoon, a small mirror, a fabric square and a lemon. Let your toddler explore freely. This stimulates all the senses and builds curiosity, problem-solving and language as you talk about what they’re finding.

2. Puddle Stomping and Outdoor Exploring

The garden, the park, even the pavement, the outdoors is a classroom. Collect leaves, spot birds, jump in puddles or talk about colours and textures. Physical development and understanding of the world, all rolled into one muddy afternoon.

3. Messy Play

Homemade playdough, finger painting, or water play with cups and bottles. Messy play is rich learning in disguise. It builds fine motor skills, creativity and scientific thinking. Pop an old shower curtain on the floor and let the magic happen.

4. Storytime Every Day

Reading together is one of the most powerful things you can do for your 2-year-old. It builds vocabulary, concentration, emotional understanding and a lifelong love of stories. Ask questions as you read: ‘What do you think happens next?’ or ‘How is the bear feeling?’

5. Helping with Real Tasks

Toddlers love to feel useful. Involve them in simple tasks like washing vegetables, sorting laundry by colour or watering a plant. These everyday activities teach maths concepts, language, independence and wholesome values around contributing to family life.

Ready to Find Out More?

Seymour House nurseries are home to 12 beyond brilliant early years settings across Essex and Hertfordshire. Whether your little one is ready to start their nursery journey or you’d like to learn more about nursery education for 2-year-olds, we’d love to hear from you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nursery Education for 2-Year-Olds

Is nursery education compulsory for 2-year-olds in England?

No. Education doesn’t become compulsory in England until the term after a child’s fifth birthday. However, families may choose nursery education from age two, or even earlier, to give their child the benefits of structured early learning, social development and professional early years support.

Can 2-year-olds get funded nursery hours?

Yes. In England, eligible families can access funded childcare. We have prepared a Seymour House Funding Guide which give you lots more information on this.

What do 2-year-olds learn at nursery?

Through play-based learning guided by the EYFS framework, 2-year-olds at nursery develop communication and language, physical skills, personal and social confidence, early maths and literacy foundations, creativity and an understanding of the world around them.

How do I know if my child is ready for nursery?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Most children thrive in nursery from age two. The social interaction, the stimulating environment and the dedicated early years team all make a wonderful difference. If you’re unsure, book a visit to your nearest Seymour House nursery. Seeing the magic for yourself is often the best way to know.

We are delighted to share that Chesterwell Day Nursery has received a fantastic outcome in its very first Ofsted inspection, following a visit at the end of 2025.

This special milestone is a wonderful reflection of what Seymour House is all about, creating inspiring, nurturing environments where children feel safe, valued, and excited to explore a world full of possibilities.

Inspectors described children arriving “very happy and separate extremely well from their parents,” greeted by a team offering a “warm smile and cuddle.” These moments may feel small, but they are where everything begins. When children feel safe and cared for, they grow in confidence, ready to embrace each new adventure. This kindness, warmth, and empathy sit at the heart of our approach, shaping a place where every child truly belongs.

Relationships continue to shine throughout the nursery. The team build “warm, nurturing and positive relationships,” creating “a calm, purposeful atmosphere where children remain deeply engaged in play.” It’s this sense of connection that allows children to flourish, learning to collaborate, share, and show respect for one another with confidence and joy.

The report celebrates the ambition and creativity of the Chesterwell team, with a curriculum delivered “consistently and effectively,” offering “purposeful and rich learning experiences.” At Seymour House, we are always striving to be beyond brilliant, reflecting, evolving, and creating meaningful opportunities that inspire children to think deeply and explore freely.

Inspectors highlighted how:

“Children quickly develop the skills needed to become positive and resilient learners.”

“Children are continually developing their communication and language skills,” confidently engaging in conversation.

“Children have a go and try, even when they initially may struggle,” building perseverance and determination.

From hands-on science experiments exploring ice and temperature, to imaginative storytelling and rich conversations, every day is filled with awe and wonder. These joyful experiences spark curiosity, build confidence, and nurture a lifelong love of learning that carries children into School & Beyond.

Working in partnership with families is another strength recognised in the report. “Strong communication between staff and parents” ensures children benefit from consistent care and support, both at home and in the nursery. This sense of connection creates a true community, where everyone comes together to make the very best decisions for each child. Because we know we are always better together.

Inclusion is woven beautifully throughout the setting. Children with additional needs “make significant progress from their individual starting points,” supported by tailored learning and strong partnerships with professionals. Children learning English as an additional language are equally empowered to thrive, developing the communication skills they need to succeed. Every child is seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are.

The report also highlights the strength of leadership, with leaders described as “ambitious and reflective,” creating a culture of continuous improvement. The team are supported to grow, develop, and feel confident in their roles, and that passion shines through in every interaction, every invitation to play, and every magical moment shared with the children.

What truly stands out is the joy of being a child at Chesterwell. Inspectors noted that “children are at the heart of this unique and exquisite setting,” where they are encouraged to make choices, explore their interests, and take pride in their achievements. Whether becoming ‘special helpers’, building with friends, or discovering something new for the first time, children approach each day with energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of wonder.

We are incredibly proud of our Chesterwell nursery family. This first Ofsted inspection is a celebration of a team who live and breathe our values, showing kindness in every interaction, working in true partnership with families, and always striving to be beyond brilliant.

You can read the full Ofsted report here.

Together, we will continue to create joyful, inspiring experiences and a brighter future for every child.

This Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating the full early years apprenticeship journey at Seymour House, from those just starting out as an early years apprentice to educators who have completed their qualification and progressed within our nurseries.

To give a real insight into life as an early years apprentice at Seymour House, we sat down with Aaliyah and Courtney to hear about their experiences, reflections and advice for anyone considering an early years apprenticeship.

Aaliyah is a new early years apprentice, just four months into her apprenticeship and already building confidence in her homebase room. Courtney has completed her Level 3 early years apprenticeship and is now a qualified Senior Early Years Educator, continuing to grow her career at Seymour House.

Together, their stories show how an early years apprenticeship at Seymour House offers careers that sparkle with purpose, supporting children to explore, discover and thrive, while our educators grow, learn and flourish within a passionate, supportive team.

Why did you choose to become an early years apprentice?

Aaliyah:
“I picked an apprenticeship because I wanted a learning pathway with a mix of practical and hands-on experience. It allows me to develop real skills in a professional environment while gaining the qualification.”

Courtney:
“I have always had a passion for supporting others, being the oldest sibling and cousin. An apprenticeship offered me the opportunity to develop my skills, gain a qualification and have hands-on experience every day.”

Where are you in your early years apprenticeship journey?

Aaliyah:
“I am currently four months into my apprenticeship. I have just passed my probation at 16 weeks and have developed my confidence in leading activities within my homebase room.”

Courtney:
“I have completed my Level 3 early years apprenticeship and I am now a Senior Early Years Educator at Seymour House.”

What is the most rewarding part of an early years apprenticeship?

Aaliyah:
“The best part of the apprenticeship is seeing the children in my homebase room grow, develop and reach milestones. I also love seeing their smiles every morning and how excited they are to see their educators.”

Courtney:
“The most rewarding part has been seeing the children I have supported thriving and happy, as well as gaining the qualifications I worked so hard for.”

What support helped you succeed during your early years apprenticeship?

Courtney:
“The support from my management team, who knew exactly how to support me in the best ways, as well as my amazing team and mentors who role modelled and supported me throughout.”

How have your skills and confidence developed as an early years apprentice?

Aaliyah:
“I have developed my confidence, especially when leading activities within my room.”

Courtney:
“Since qualifying, I have had an abundance of opportunities to continue developing my skills and career with Seymour House. I am now a Senior Early Years Educator, which showcases how my knowledge and confidence have continually improved.”

Can you share a moment when you felt especially proud of your progress?

Aaliyah:
“One moment I recall is being mentioned on our team values recognition board. I felt proud to be recognised for my hard work and for my engaging delivery of our children’s activity setups, called invitations to play.”

How did your early years apprenticeship prepare you for your current role?

Courtney:
“Completing my apprenticeship prepared me for my role now, as I had the opportunity to learn and develop my knowledge about this career and the further paths available to me.”

How has completing an early years apprenticeship opened up new opportunities?

Courtney:
“I am now an experienced Senior Early Years Educator and I am currently completing my Level 5 apprenticeship to gain a further qualification as a Lead Early Years Educator. With my experience, I not only support our current Level 3 early years educators as an Apprentice Ambassador, but I have also had the opportunity to complete further programmes such as leadership investment.”

What advice would you give to someone considering an early years apprenticeship?

Aaliyah:
“I would always say to go into it with an open mindset. Every day is different, so it does take patience and a real interest in helping young children flourish.”

Courtney:
“I would describe the apprenticeship experience as fulfilling and meaningful, you get to be part of something really special every day.”

Start your Early Years Apprenticeship at Seymour House
An early years apprenticeship at Seymour House is about more than learning on the job.
Seymour House has once again proudly supported Home-Start Essex with our annual Christmas shoebox appeal, helping to ensure that children supported by the charity receive a thoughtful gift during the festive season.

Each year, our families and nursery team come together to donate small items that can be lovingly packed into a shoebox. These gifts, ranging from toys and books to practical care items such as gloves, hats, toothbrushes and soap, are sorted by age and gender before being given to children attending Home-Start Family Groups.

An important and joyful part of the appeal is seeing the children in our nurseries join in. With a sprinkle of festive excitement in the air, they decorate the shoeboxes with bright colours, careful designs and plenty of smiles. Their creativity adds a touch of Christmas magic to every box, and the experience helps them learn about kindness, empathy and the joy of giving to others during this special time of year.

This year, the generosity of our families and nursery team has been greatly appreciated. The collection included a wonderful variety of gifts, alongside many additional donations that will support families who may have very few presents to open this Christmas.

We are delighted to share that Basildon Hospital Day Nursery has been rated Outstanding in every area following its most recent Ofsted inspection!

The inspectors described our nursery as “warm and welcoming,” recognising how children thrive in an environment where they feel safe, supported, and inspired to explore. Strong and caring relationships are at the heart of everything we do, helping children settle quickly and grow in confidence.

The report praised the team for creating an exciting and ambitious curriculum that encourages curiosity, independence, and deep thinking. Inspectors highlighted how:

“Staff help children explore and ask questions, fostering curiosity and deep thinking.”

“Children flourish in a language-rich environment where stories and purposeful talk promote creativity and rich conversation.”

“Children who speak English as an additional language receive exceptional support, helping them to feel understood and confident as they develop both languages successfully.”

From discovering what happens when a pine cone gets wet, to pretending to put out fires with water squirters, learning at Basildon Hospital is hands-on, imaginative, and full of joy. Storybooks inspire creativity too, with children making their own ‘Stickman’ characters and retelling stories in their own words. These magical moments help children strengthen memory, confidence, and communication.

Independence is celebrated every day. Babies are supported to spread their own cream cheese, toddlers serve lunch from shared dishes, and older children pour drinks and help friends at the ‘Self Support Station’. Each step helps build confidence, resilience, and pride.

Our partnerships with families are a true strength of the nursery. Parents spoke warmly about the caring and dedicated team, describing how well informed they feel through daily conversations and regular updates. Families especially value the thoughtfully designed ‘Borrow Bags’ which support learning and wellbeing at home, helping children feel secure and supported through every stage of development.

Nursery Manager, Danielle Norris, shared her pride in the team:

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive an Outstanding rating. Our team works with so much care, passion, and creativity to provide the very best start in life for every child. The Ofsted feedback reflects the warm, nurturing, and inspiring environment that our educators create every single day.”

Head of Early Years Practice, Esther Carey, added:

“This Outstanding result is a true reflection of the dedication and expertise of the Basildon Hospital team. They have created a space where children feel loved, valued, and inspired to explore the world around them. It is wonderful to see such exceptional practice recognised and celebrated.”

We were also delighted to receive a personal letter from Cllr Gavin Callaghan, Leader of Basildon Council, whose daughter attended Seymour House. He shared how much he valued the care and education she received and congratulated the team, writing:

“This recognition is richly deserved and a testament to the passion, commitment, and hard work of your entire team.
At our nurseries, we understand just how important sleep is for little ones, it’s a vital part of their growth, learning, and wellbeing. That’s why we follow individual sleep routines for every child in our care.

Working together from the start

During your child’s first settling-in session, your key person will take time to chat with you about your child’s sleep habits. When they usually nap, how long for, and what helps them drift off comfortably. We aim to mirror your home routine as closely as possible, helping your child feel secure and settled in their new environment.

We never force a child to stay awake or wake them before they’re ready. Research into early brain development shows that while children sleep, their brains are hard at work, consolidating memories, learning, and processing the discoveries they’ve made during their busy day. That’s why we see sleep as an essential part of your child’s development, not just rest time.

Comfort and care

There’s no need to worry about bringing in bedding, we take care of everything! Each child has their own individual sleep bag, where bedding is safely stored and regularly laundered to keep it fresh and clean.

Depending on your child’s stage of development, they’ll be offered a cot or a sleep mattress for their naps. Our team takes a nurturing and responsive approach to sleep, ensuring that every child feels comforted and secure as they settle down. We never leave children to cry themselves to sleep, and all sleeping children are closely supervised, with regular sleep checks carried out to ensure their safety.

Safer sleep always

Importantly, our safer sleep practices are in accordance with recommendations from both the NHS and the Lullaby Trust to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

The Lullaby Trust have lots of helpful information to support families with safer sleep at home too, visit The Lullaby Trust – Safer sleep for babies, Support for families for more information.

We are delighted to share that Brinkley Lane Day Nursery has been rated Outstanding in every area following its most recent Ofsted inspection.

Ofsted recognised how children thrive in this inclusive and welcoming setting, noting how quickly they settle and how excited they are to explore the learning invitations planned for them each day.
Inspectors shared how:

“Children arrive with smiles and enthusiasm, settle quickly and enjoy the exciting activities on offer.”

“Children benefit from an ambitious, well sequenced curriculum that is tailored to their developmental needs and individual interests.”

“Staff have high expectations for all children, including those learning English as an additional language, and adapt teaching effectively so every child is included.”

“As a result, children are highly motivated, enthusiastic learners who share ideas confidently and take pride in their achievements.”

The report also highlighted the strength of communication and language teaching. Educators model clear speech, encourage rich vocabulary and build early language from babies to preschool in ways that are perfectly matched to their stage of development. Independence shines throughout the nursery too, with children supported to take increasing ownership of everyday tasks, helping them to feel capable, confident and ready for school.

Nursery Manager, Laura Clarke, shared her pride:
“Our team are so proud to achieve an Outstanding rating. They work with such purpose and passion every day to provide the very best start in life for every child. This feedback reflects the thoughtful, nurturing and enriching practice I see throughout our nursery.”

Head of Early Years Practice, Emma Walker, added:
“Brinkley Lane has such a warm and joyful atmosphere. You can really feel how much the team care about what they do and how well they know each child. Their passion for creating meaningful learning experiences shines through, and it’s wonderful to see that recognised.”

Parents also shared how well supported they feel and how educators continually go above and beyond for children and families.

We are incredibly proud of our Brinkley Lane nursery family.
