Springfield Road Day Nursery School is situated in a beautiful converted Victorian villa in the heart of Chelmsford. Our vibrant and homely nursery provides care for children aged between 3 months and 5 years. A mix of period features and a modern orangery extension make our nursery a fabulously exciting place. All children make remarkable progress in their learning, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who speak English as an additional language. Many children exceed their developmental milestones from an early age. Children thrive in the stimulating and nurturing environment of the nursery. New starters settle extremely well and very quickly as they establish firm bonds with their key persons. These strong attachments help children to feel safe and secure.
We know that parents are a child’s first and most important educator, and we believe that working in partnership with you is as important as our work with your child. Our fantastic team of Early Years Educators and Teachers provide a calm, caring but stimulating nursery environment to offer your child the best space to learn and grow.
We believe that working together with parents achieves the best outcome for children’s learning and development. So, we’ve created engaging early education resources that are available for free to parents of children at our nurseries. Our resources support literacy and maths but also communication, critical thinking, creativity, cooperation, curiosity.
Discover how we teach our nursery school children to read and write by introducing letters and sounds, while practising listening and speaking. Before long, children start to recognise familiar words automatically and read new words by decoding them quickly. As soon as children can read independently, the emphasis shifts from learning to read, to reading to learn.
Find out how we introduce numeracy to our nursery school children using Dragon Maths. This is an effective learning process that was developed at Seymour House to give children a firm foundation in numeracy. Dragon Maths gives children the confidence to master arithmetic at primary school, mathematics at secondary, and opens the door to the stem subjects: science, technology, engineering, and maths.

Just a big thank you to Jess, Kerry and the Nursery Class team for being so welcoming. George has settled really well and I believe this is down to the wonderful team and their approach. I love the updates on Parent Zone, particularly on George’s first day – lots of updates for an anxious Mummy! George is gaining confidence in trying new foods, thanks to the variety of food on offer and again the fantastic input from the team. Hopefully this will continue and he will continue to eat a bit more.
