About Brinkley Lane Nursery
At Brinkley Lane Day Nursery in Colchester, we provide outstanding childcare and education in a stimulating learning environment.
Each child’s Key Person recognises that children are natural learners and plan activities and learning experiences to provide children with the best possible start in life. Our nursery is judged by Ofsted to be outstanding, and we are proud to put care and education at the heart of everything we do.

We are making some fantastic improvements throughout the nursery including modernising and improving all homebase rooms, installing heating and cooling and a new external play area for our children to play and explore in.

Delivering outstanding early education
We believe that working together with parents achieves the best outcome for children’s learning and development. So, we’ve created engaging early education resources that are available for free to parents of children at our nurseries. Our resources support literacy and maths but also communication, critical thinking, creativity, cooperation, curiosity.
Teaching children to read and write
Discover how we teach our nursery school children to read and write by introducing letters and sounds, while practising listening and speaking. Before long, children start to recognise familiar words automatically and read new words by decoding them quickly. As soon as children can read independently, the emphasis shifts from learning to read, to reading to learn.
Introducing numeracy to children
Find out how we introduce numeracy to our nursery school children using Dragon Maths. This is an effective learning process that was developed at Seymour House to give children a firm foundation in numeracy. Dragon Maths gives children the confidence to master arithmetic at primary school, mathematics at secondary, and opens the door to the stem subjects: science, technology, engineering, and maths.

I have worked for Seymour House since 2009 and the amazing training and learning opportunities provided have enabled me to progress from Early Years educator all the way to become Nursery Manager. Through this process I have developed a passion and drive to excel in providing the outstanding care and education offered at Seymour House. I have worked in Early years for over 10 years now, within this time I completed my BA Honours Degree in Early Childhood studies. I Joined Seymour house in 2019 as a head of Early years and after moving abroad for two years I have re-joined the Head of Early years team here at Brinkly Lane in 2023. I am passionate about creating and enriching environment to supporting children to learn, develop and grow. Here at Brinkley Lane Seymour house, I lead and work closely alongside our fantastic team who share my core values in providing outstanding care and education to all our children and families. They keep us informed and up to date with Leon’s progress and always with such lovely smiles and positive attitudes. Holly and Emma have also been amazing helping with any questions.
