Inspirational education

Fuelling young minds to reach for the stars in a galaxy filled with potential

Created with oodles of early years education experience, our dynamic educational curriculum is unique to Seymour House and incorporates everything that’s important in early childhood education.

Introducing our curriculum – The 5Cs

The 5Cs are the skills children learn before going to school. Skills that shape their approach to challenges, personal goals and their understanding of the world. Skills all children need for a bright future.

Delivered through a rich array of early education teaching methods and resources, lovingly tailored to your child’s interests, abilities and learning styles, we bring the 5Cs to life in the most amazing ways, fostering a love of learning, nourishing body and mind.

Communication

Our goal is for the children in our care to be able to express their thoughts and opinions clearly, using a wide vocabulary. They will understand how to engage in conversation, demonstrating good language comprehension. Our early years education approach instils children with a love of literature and helps them begin to develop written methods with correct letter formation and awareness of letter sound correspondence.

How do we do it?

Fabulous songs and rhymes, snuggling down for stories, creative chatter baskets, snack and chat, remember when, meeting Tizzy at Early Talk Boost, poetry baskets, magic wand sky writing.

Co-operation

Children at Seymour House nurseries are encouraged to be independent and have a positive sense of self, whilst also working well together, incorporating each other’s views and ideas to safely and respectfully achieve a shared goal. Children have fun, thinking and learning together, demonstrating good foundations for living in a social world.

How do we do it?

Paired buddy times, being kindness catchers, childhood games, special helpers, safety detectives, play spaces for me and you, breath, believe, relax sessions.

Curiosity

Children are inquisitive researchers who move their bodies to explore and investigate, developing their own theories about the world and how it works. Our early years curriculum encourages them to show awareness of themselves, the significant people in their lives, the community around them and the wider and natural world as they begin to understand ways to care for the environment.

How do we do it?

Funky dough disco, gardening fun, around the world programme, iCAN learning, meet the expert and travelling museums, curiosity cubes, Awe and Wonder programme.

Creativity

Creativity is about children discovering and expressing their artistic and cultural awareness, creating freely with a wide range of media and art and craft materials. Our early education programme allows them to demonstrate their own personal character and talents through being imaginative and self-expressive in their play.

How do we do it?

Music, dance, painting, talent shows, dressing up, imaginative play, storytelling, magic carpet rides, make it boxes.

Critical thinking

Through the early years education at our nurseries, children develop an awareness of early science and engineering concepts and become confident thinkers who make sense of their experiences through perceiving patterns and early STEM concepts. Children gain a good understanding of the numbers  0-10, basic shapes and measurements. They also, display digital literacy and an understanding of basic online safety.

How do we do it?

Dragon maths, little scientists, choose a challenge, open ended block play, puzzles for critical thinking, imaginative build it bases.

Brilliant Babies

Babies in our care thrive from the nurturing, warm relationships we foster from day one. We dedicate time to form meaningful bonds so even our youngest learners feel safe to explore and grow. Our wonderful Early Years Educators are respectful caregivers who attune to each baby’s needs while mirroring home routines as closely as possible.

5Cs learning for babies and toddlers, age 3 months up to 2 years, revolves around enticing invitations to play both indoors and outdoors, using Makaton to shape early language and communication and, of course, an endless supply of cuddles!

By tapping into natural curiosities, our babies are encouraged to use all their senses to explore a rich array of play experiences in their own unique ways. Our role as attentive Early Years Educators is crucial. By responding and playfully interacting in the moment, we are helping to spark those all important neural connections that shape our babies’ brains.

Tremendous 2’s

Learning is active, exciting and full of exploration and discovery, perfectly pitched for tremendous 2-year-olds.

Our programme of Awe and Wonder is full to the brim with 5Cs learning. Children can be a superhero for a day, be wowed by marvellous magic, or explore science through a collection of experiences designed to bring joy and wonder to make brilliant childhood memories. All the time our observant Early Years Educators are close by, ready to adapt the flow of play in the moment to suit each child’s needs.

We know the want for independence is strong at this age, so we give our 2-year-olds the time and encouragement they need to do things on their own. As they begin to express themselves, we start to grow self-regulation from co-regulation, helping your little one deal with all those big feelings.

Prepared for school

Preschoolers’ days are packed full of fun, with an added sparkle of Early Years Educator led learning as the children engage in our bespoke Prepared for School programme.

5Cs learning grows as we build upon early literacy skills, numeracy skills and personal, social, and emotional skills. Educators support early friendships and harness a ‘have a go’ attitude, which is key for future success.

We love being creative in our early education teaching methods, ensuring that children at our nurseries enjoy every single minute of learning. We incorporate Go Green learning too, so preschoolers understand the importance of caring for our planet, and Food Education to help develop good eating habits for life.

As school approaches, we work closely with partner schools to support the children in their next step, confident in the knowledge they are moving forward as their very best selves.

Our Go Green curriculum

We feel strongly about being kind to the planet, so much so that we’ve created a bespoke Go Green Programme to teach the children at our nurseries all about our environment and how we can help to look after our beautiful planet.

Our programme uses child friendly methods to raise awareness of sustainability from songs to stories, environmental invitations to play plus a host of fun games. We introduce children to early concepts in 5 key areas: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Respecting animals, and Respecting plants.

Children love being planet protectors at nursery! They help to recycle daily, swich off lights to save energy, and get involved in long term projects like building bug hotels and growing foods in our kitchen gardens. The younger children can get involved too by saving sea creatures as part of water play or creating earth friendly art with leaves and petals.

Collectively, our Go Green programme builds a wonderful appreciation for the world around us and teaches green habits to create a brighter world for all.

Enriching environments

We know that children thrive most when they feel settled and secure, with a positive sense of belonging. The bespoke early years environments at Seymour House nurseries have been designed to offer a calm yet stimulating space for children to learn, grow and play. Within our indoor and outdoor classrooms children become confident, powerful learners who can explore and experiment using the very best early years resources available.

Enhancing wellbeing with Hygge

Seymour House has adopted the ‘Hygge’ approach to enhancing children’s wellbeing and development throughout all our nurseries. The Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) approach is a Danish concept and is essentially a feeling which encompasses warmth, comfort and contentment.

The Hygge ethos of living embraces life’s simple pleasures and living in the moment. It consists of ten core elements which are achieved through careful changes to the environment and our team’s approach to learning.

  1. Atmosphere – creating a warm, calm and homely atmosphere
  2. Presence – focus on what they are doing and feeling right here, right now
  3. Pleasure – activities that are fun and promote happiness and wellbeing
  4. Equality – sharing and respect for others
  5. Togetherness – spending quality time together and forming strong friendships
  6. Gratitude – time to reflect and discuss what they’re grateful for
  7. Harmony – less focus on competitiveness and more on enjoying playing together
  8. Truce – learning to play fairly and manage conflict
  9. Comfort – a comfortable, cosy environment
  10. Shelter – space to relax or read alone

Focusing on children’s wellbeing is fundamental for their development and continuing progress, that’s why wellbeing is at the core of our 5 Cs curriculum. Nurturing wellbeing also has a positive effect on behaviours, attitudes, and overall engagement in play.
