Seymour House Installs Life-Saving Defibrillators Across All Nurseries

Seymour House has taken an important step to enhance safety across all 11 of its nurseries by installing life-saving Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). This investment ensures that every nursery is equipped to respond quickly in a medical emergency, providing reassurance to families, team members, and the wider community.
While AEDs are not yet a requirement in early years settings, Seymour House believes they should be. The decision to install them was inspired by a growing awareness of the importance of emergency preparation in nurseries. Now fully operational, the defibrillators demonstrate Seymour House’s dedication to safety, leading the way in creating the safest possible environment for children to explore, learn, and thrive.
Extra reassurance for families
Safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything Seymour House does. The new AEDs bring even greater peace of mind, knowing that help is nearby if ever needed.
- Immediate emergency response: In a cardiac emergency, every second counts. Having an AED on-site means trained nursery teams can act fast, significantly increasing the chances of survival.
- Protection for everyone: The defibrillators are designed for use on both children and adults, ensuring the entire nursery community, including parents, carers, and team members are safeguarded.
- A commitment to best practice: While not a legal requirement, AEDs are widely recommended in public spaces. Seymour House is setting a new standard in early years safety, ensuring every setting is fully prepared for any emergency.
Expertly trained and always prepared
Every Seymour House nursery team member is trained in paediatric first aid, including how to use a defibrillator, using a dedicated training AED, so they are ready to respond in a medical emergency. To further enhance this training, Seymour House has now invested in its own AED training unit, identical to the defibrillators installed in the nurseries. This means that from now on, all team members will train with the exact same model used in real-life scenarios, ensuring complete familiarity with its operation. By integrating this hands-on experience into regular training sessions, Seymour House is reinforcing its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of emergency readiness.
To keep the equipment in top condition, the defibrillators undergo daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks, following manufacturer guidelines to guarantee they remain ready for use at all times.
Leading the way in early years safety
Seymour House has always gone beyond industry standards when it comes to child safety. The installation of AEDs is another step in the group’s long-standing commitment to protecting children, supporting families, and creating a safe and nurturing environment.
Caroline Clark, Head of Operations of Seymour House, said:
“At Seymour House, the safety and wellbeing of children is always our top priority. While we hope these AEDs are never needed, having them in place ensures that our teams are fully prepared for any emergency. We know how much trust families place in us, and this initiative is all about providing extra reassurance for parents, carers, and our nursery teams. We believe this is an important step forward in early years safety, and we hope to see other nursery providers taking similar action.”
By introducing this initiative, Seymour House continues to create nurseries where children can learn, grow, and play – while families enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing their little ones are in the safest of hands.
