A Special Visit to Lawn Lane Celebrating Early Years Nutrition.

We were delighted to welcome MP Marie Goldman to our Lawn Lane Day Nursery recently, as part of a visit shining a light on early years nutrition and what nurseries can achieve when they’re given the right support to help children thrive. The visit highlighted the incredible difference it makes when early years settings have the training, resources, and confidence to create positive, nourishing food experiences every day.

The occasion was made extra special as Marie presented the Lawn Lane team with their Rooting Nourishing Our Future (NOF) Award, recognising the fantastic work taking place to create positive food and nutrition experiences for children. Lawn Lane is the first Seymour House nursery to achieve the award.

While visiting, Marie joined our children and team to see first-hand how food, learning, and curiosity come together in meaningful, everyday moments. The visit also celebrated the Nourishing Our Future initiative, an Essex-wide programme supporting early years settings to strengthen food and nutrition across the county.

Throughout the day, Marie saw children exploring food investigation stations, using their senses to discover ingredients, talk about textures and smells, and share their ideas with excitement and interest.

A real highlight was time spent in our Kitchen Garden, where children have been busy growing their own produce, including potatoes they planted themselves. They were delighted to dig them up, observe how they had changed, and talk about how food grows from seed to plate.

These hands-on growing experiences are then linked naturally to tasting and simple cooking activities, helping children make meaningful connections between what they grow and what they eat, while building confidence and a positive relationship with food.

Marie also joined the children for their Nursery Kitchen lunch, enjoying the calm, social atmosphere of mealtimes at Lawn Lane and seeing how our partnership with Nursery Kitchen helps support consistent, nutritious and enjoyable meals throughout the week.

It was a meaningful and inspiring day that reflected the power of early years settings to spark curiosity, confidence, and a love of healthy eating.

We are so proud of our Lawn Lane team and their achievement, and we look forward to sharing more magical moments from across our Seymour House settings.
