Safeguarding

Your child’s safety, happiness and wellbeing always come first.

Every day we create warm, caring and secure environments where children feel protected, supported and confident to learn, play and thrive.

From the people in our team to the spaces we design, every detail is carefully considered to keep children safe and happy.

Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL)

Each nursery has a highly trained Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) responsible for overseeing all aspects of child protection and safeguarding practice, this is usually the Nursery Manager.

Our DSLs ensure safeguarding children is not simply a written policy, but a standard that is fully understood, consistently followed and embedded into everyday practice by every team member. Should a parent, carer, visitor or team member wish to raise a safeguarding concern, they can do so in confidence by contacting the DSL/Nursery Manager.

Our Team & Safeguarding Training

Our team are truly exceptional. Alongside their passion for early years education, they receive specialist training in key areas including Safeguarding, Paediatric First Aid, Anaphylaxis Awareness, Food Safety and Online Safety.

They live and breathe our values, the 3 B’s, every single day, creating nurturing environments where children feel valued, respected, and cared for.

Training is never simply a one-off induction. Continuous professional development is embedded into our culture, ensuring our team stay confident and knowledgeable. Regular training keeps safeguarding at the forefront of practice, so our team can recognise and respond appropriately to any concerns. Our regular practice of emergency protocols, such as fire safety and lockdown, is equally important.

We stay up to date with the latest guidance and legislation to ensure best practice across our nurseries. Clear policies and procedures guide everything we do, from intimate care and team conduct to health, safety and wellbeing, helping us maintain the highest standards.

Thoughtfully Designed Spaces

Creating a safe environment goes far beyond policies and procedures, it’s about thoughtful design and purposeful spaces.

Our indoor and outdoor environments are carefully planned with safety, visibility and supervision in mind. Bright, open plan spaces encourage children to explore freely while ensuring they are always easily seen, heard and supported by our team. This is one of the reasons we choose not to have separate sleep rooms.

Every detail is carefully considered, from child-sized furniture and age-appropriate resources to equipment sourced from trusted and approved suppliers. Practical spaces, like nappy changing areas, are thoughtfully considered to balance openness and supervision while always maintaining each child’s dignity and privacy.

As children learn, play and grow, the occasional bumps or tumbles can naturally happen. We carefully monitor accidents and trends to ensure our environments remain safe and suitable for every stage of development.

Safer sleep is part of everyday practice in our nurseries.

Every member of our team receives safer sleep training as part of their induction, with practices regularly monitored through observations and audits.

We follow the latest guidance from the NHS and The Lullaby Trust to help reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in babies up to 12 months of age and to support safe sleep practices for older children. Our training and procedures cover:

  • • Safe sleep positioning
  • • Appropriate sleep equipment and environments
  • • Suitable clothing and room temperatures
  • • The use of comforters
  • • Supervision and regular sleep checks

Children are never left unsupervised while sleeping. Regular sleep checks ensure they remain safe, comfortable and settled throughout their rest time.

We take a nurturing and responsive approach to sleep, offering comfort and gentle reassurance as children settle. We never leave children to cry themselves to sleep, force them to stay awake, or wake them before they are ready, responding sensitively to each child’s individual needs.

Families looking for additional guidance can find a wealth of practical information and support from the Lullaby Trust on safer sleep for babies and young children.

Rigorous Recruitment

Keeping children safe starts long before a team member joins us. That’s why we follow a thorough, safer recruitment process to ensure every member of our team shares our values, high standards and commitment to safeguarding children in our care.

Before starting, every team member completes a detailed recruitment process, including interviews, enhanced DBS checks, overseas checks where required and thorough reference checks.

From day one, new team members receive training on key policies and procedures, helping them feel confident in their role. During their probation period, ongoing supervision, peer observations and management reviews ensure they continue to provide safe, professional and high-quality care for every child.

Health & Hygiene

Maintaining high standards of hygiene is an important part of keeping children safe and healthy. All of our nurseries proudly hold 5-star Environmental Health ratings, reflecting our commitment to cleanliness and safety.

Rigorous cleaning schedules ensure surfaces, equipment and resources are regularly sanitised throughout the day. Our Housekeepers work with the team to help create environments that feel fresh, safe, calm and beautifully maintained.

Good hygiene practices are embedded into everyday routines. From handwashing to independent self-care, we support the children in developing healthy habits through fun and engaging age-appropriate experiences.

Ongoing Safety Audits & Checks

We carry out regular internal audits and safety checks across all our nurseries to maintain consistently high standards, ensuring every setting remains safe, secure and welcoming for families.

Each day begins and ends with thorough safety checks, helping us ensure every environment is secure, well prepared and ready to support children and families with confidence and care.

Online Safety & Cyber Security

We understand that cyber security, data protection and online safety are extremely important in today’s ever-changing world. We keep up to date with the latest news and guidance, regularly reviewing and evaluating our approaches to help keep children, our team, data and our organisation safe. We are committed to working within the framework of Cyber Essentials.

Online safety is part of the regular training our team receives, so they understand the potential risks and the control measures needed to keep everyone safe. We believe online safety education starts early, before children can read or use devices independently. So, it’s important to introduce safe habits, as technology will become a part of many children’s everyday lives as they grow. Our approach is to build these habits early on, just like we teach road safety and support children to take on the responsibility of being the ‘Safety Detective’.

The use of technology with children in our nurseries is strictly supervised and used only for educational purposes as part of an adult-led education experience to enhance a clear learning intention. In the Nursery Class, this is usually through our Touch Table, where children can learn in a hands-on, interactive way. We have filtering and monitoring procedures in place to ensure online content is appropriate, with all content carefully pre-screened by our team before being shared with the children.
