What is Ofsted?
The Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills, better known as Ofsted, is responsible for inspecting and regulating all organisations and services that provide education and those that provide education and care for children and young people. This means that in addition to schools and colleges, Ofsted are also responsible for inspecting, regulating and rating early years childcare facilities and nurseries.
Why does Ofsted inspect and rate day nurseries?
Every child deserves the best start in life and having Ofsted rated nurseries means childcare providers keep pace with early years education, appropriate safeguarding, high quality care, suitable staff and that they meet the statutory requirements of the early years foundation stage.
What are Ofsted day nursery ratings?
There are four possible Ofsted ratings which are based on the inspectors’ judgement of a range of categories. Ofsted ratings can be Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement or Inadequate. We are proud to say that the Ofsted ratings for all Seymour House nurseries are Outstanding in all areas.

Ofsted inspectors have noted the exceptional learning environment at our day nurseries and the amazing progress that the children are making in a wide range of skills. Our curriculum is reported as impressive and well-sequenced, consistently meeting the needs of every individual child.

If a child is comfortable in their environment, that is a good sign that the nursery is doing things right. Assessing the behaviour of the children is part of an Ofsted nursery inspection and at our nurseries children were seen to arrive at our nurseries excited for the day, happy and confident in their surroundings with a sense of belonging.

We believe in not only providing care for children now, but also in preparing them for the future. We promote listening and communication skills and encourage children to take responsibility and be independent. Our Ofsted nursery reports reflect this, stating that children in our care are eager to explore, thriving in a rich and caring environment.

The best childcare nurseries have the best staff, and we have fantastic teams of dedicated staff in all our nurseries across Essex and Hertfordshire. Our Managers and Early Years Educators create a calm and welcoming environment and form strong relationships with the children. Utmost priority is given to the children’s safety, health and wellbeing and our staff will go the extra mile to ensure they achieve this.
